THREE QUICK STEPS

A calmer way to check a Shopify product CSV

Review the price cells that deserve a second look, then make any fixes in your spreadsheet before you head back to Shopify.

01

Choose your CSV

Use a Shopify product CSV with a Price column. Older exports using Variant Price are recognized too.

02

See rows to review

Priceproof checks values row by row and points to the CSV row, product, and field that may need attention.

03

Fix it at the source

Update the original spreadsheet, then re-check it before importing. This tool doesn’t change your file.

LESS SPREADSHEET GUESSWORK

Spot price surprises before they reach your storefront.

Shopify product CSVs can contain a price for each product or variant. A blank cell may become 0.00 on import, while currency symbols and other non-numeric text are easy to overlook in a large sheet.

This small preflight focuses on price values—not every possible Shopify import rule—so you can quickly catch the mistakes most likely to affect what customers see.

THE QUICK PRICE GUIDE

What this Shopify CSV checker looks for

It reads your header row, finds the price field, then checks product and variant rows for common price issues.

$

Blank or malformed prices

Blank prices are marked for review because Shopify’s CSV guide says an empty price defaults to 0.00. Values like $12.00 are flagged because Shopify expects the monetary value without a currency symbol.

↗

Compare-at prices below the price

If a compare-at value is lower than the current price, the checker flags the pair so you can confirm the sale pricing is intentional.

▤

Image-only rows are skipped

Shopify product CSVs can use extra rows for additional product images. Those rows aren’t treated as missing-price variants when the row contains only an image URL.

For the complete format and import rules, see Shopify’s official product CSV guide .

GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently asked questions

Which price column does it support?

It recognizes Shopify’s current Price and Compare-at price headers, plus common older names such as Variant Price and Variant Compare At Price.

Does it upload or save my CSV?

No. The browser reads the file locally to run the check. Priceproof has no upload endpoint, account system, or file storage.

Does a clean result guarantee Shopify will accept my file?

No. This is a price-focused preflight, not a complete Shopify import validator. It doesn’t check every required header, image URL, product option, inventory field, or other import rule.

Is Priceproof made by Shopify?

No. Priceproof is an independent utility and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Shopify.
